What is PRP ?

PRP ( Platelet Rich Plasma ) is a Autologous blood which contains platelets higher than normal.

Normal platelet count is 4.5 × 105/μL, but PRP has 4–5 times the normal value.

How does PRP work ?

 Platelets secrete growth factors like platelet- derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and epithelial growth factor (EGF) which improves healing process.

Platelets also has adhesion molecules like fibrin, fibronectin, and vitronectin which promote bone formation.

How is PRP prepared ?

 Patient’s own blood drawn is then centrifuged in a machine to separate platelets.This centrifugation allows the separation and collection of the buffy coat layer that contains PRP. This prepared PRP is then administered to the site of injury or into the joints.

What are the conditions treated with PRP ?

Do we need to be admitted in the hospital for PRP procedure ?

 It’s a day care procedure done in the out patient department, you will be send home immediately after the procedure.

How long we need to take rest after the procedure ?

 Technically there in no need for rest but it’s advisable for 24 – 48 hrs of less activity to be on safer side.

How painful is the PRP injection ?

 It’s not a painful procedure on a scale of 10 it’s just 1.

As PRP is prepared from your blood it doesn’t have any side effects, It’s 100% safer procedure.
